As Bollywood's latest release Animal anticipates its ascent to blockbuster status, fans have been obsessed with the glitz and glam of the film’s premiere. The special screening in Mumbai recently caught the eye of fashion aficionados who spotted veteran actor Anil Kapoor sporting a jacket from Pakistani streetwear label Rastah.

Anil, who plays father to Ranbir Kapoor in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s crime thriller, wore the ‘Hand-woven Dot Jacket’ from an archive collection of Rastah. According to the fashion brand’s website, the jacket symbolises the “concepts of surveillance and personal autonomy in the digital age” and has been completely woven by hand by artist-tailor Master Ijaz from Kasur, Pakistan. Currently sold out, the jacket is priced at Rs.123,200.

This is not the first time that Anil has donned the Pakistani brand. The Bollywood icon wore another Rastah jacket in his 2022 release JuggJugg Jeeyo, as shared by the apparel brand’s co-founder Zain Ahmad on X (formerly Twitter) who called it a “surprise”. "Woke up today and was pleasantly surprised to see the legend Anil Kapoor in Rastah for his new film JuggJugg Jeeyo!” read Zain’s post. One of the film posters shared by the Mr India actor also confirmed that he was indeed wearing a blue upper from Rastah.

In 2022, Zain also shared a collaborative shoot with Anil's son, Harshvardhan Kapoor, who is also an actor and producer, on Rastah’s Instagram page. The post saw Harshvardhan in a Rastah handcrafted denim yarn-dyed jacket with Anil standing behind him in an orange button-down and white inner paired with white pants.

Founded in 2018 by cousins Zain, Ismail, and Adnan Ahmad, Rastah is a Pakistani streetwear label that aspires to blend Western fashion influences with the rich traditions of Eastern culture and art. Rastah has been worn by several bigwigs, including Canadian singer Justin Beiber, Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, Oscar-winning actor Riz Ahmed and rapper French Montana.
