UK maritime agency reports 'potential blast' in Red Sea

Drone activity originated from Yemen, says UK Maritime Trade Operations

LONDON:

Britain's maritime agency said on Sunday that it has received a report of drone activity and a potential explosion in the Red Sea's Bab al-Mandab strait.

The drone activity originated from the direction of Yemen, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a statement.

"Vessels in the vicinity are advised to follow industry guidance on loitering munitions and advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO," the statement read.

Similar incidents have occurred recently in the region, particularly since the beginning of ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza on Oct. 7.
