KARACHI:

A two-member bench of Sindh High Court, headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar, criticised the residents of a building in Liaquatabad in response to a petition calling for the demolition of illegal constructions.

The bench questioned whether the residents had verified the building's construction against the approved plan before purchasing flats there.

A large number of building residents sought to halt the execution of the court orders and requested a review.

Justice Akhtar expressed frustration, stating that the law was unambiguous. Did you verify that the building was constructed according to the approved plan before moving in?" Justice Akhtar questioned.

The victims' lawyer admitted they had not checked the building's legal status. He argued that the poor would be displaced and urged a halt to the operation.

The court, however, remarked that human rights considerations do not apply to illegal matters.
