Performance of special children at global events lauded

Provincial secretary Taha Farooqui says special children are also an important part of society

Taha Ahmed Farooqui, the Provincial Secretary of the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department in Sindh, emphasised the integral role of special children, saying that they are also an important part of society.

Speaking at the Inter School Fit-5 Challenge Programme, organised by Special Olympics Pakistan, in Karachi's Clifton neighbourhood on Friday, Farooqui highlighted the global recognition of Pakistan through the achievements of these children in sports, particularly their exceptional performance at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany.

He said that the children secured over 80 medals, showcasing their abilities and elevating the country's reputation on the international stage.

The event witnessed the participation of Special Olympics Pakistan Chairperson Ronak Lakhani, Board Member Asma Hasan, Sindh Olympic Association Vice President Tehmina Asif, National Director of SOP Taha Tahir, and National Sports Director Farkhunda Jabeen.

Farooqui praised the Inter School Fit-5 Challenge as a commendable initiative by Special Olympics Pakistan, emphasising its positive impact on the physical fitness and ongoing performance of athletes. He stressed the motivational aspect, encouraging children to strive for further accomplishments through hard work.

Ronak Lakhani, on the occasion, outlined the success of the Fit-5 Challenge programme, where 80 special athletes from seven schools participated in fitness performances, tug of war, and endurance dance events.

Lakhani underscored the importance of promoting health awareness alongside physical development, emphasising the positive influence on the overall grooming of special athletes.
