Labour dept penalises wage law violators

610 institutions guilty of violating minimum wage law ,fined cumulative amount of Rs1,144,050.

RAWALPINDI:

The labour department slapped a fine to the tune of Rs2.2 million on businesses, factories, and retail outlets over violations of the minimum wage law, currently set at Rs32,000.

The department said that those found in violation were penalised under the Minimum Wages Act 2019, the Punjab Shops and Establishments Ordinance 1969 and the Factories Act 2023. The penalties include shutting down the business and imprisonment of the violator.

The department said on Wednesday it inspected 1,725 private sector establishments in the Rawalpindi division.

They found 610 institutions guilty of violating the minimum wage law and fined them a cumulative amount of Rs1,144,050.
