LAHORE:

In a shocking incident, two female students on a college tour from Pattoki to Kashmir were shot and injured when unidentified suspects fired at their bus on Multan Road in Sundar.

The victims, Ayesha and Nimra, were on a bus carrying 30 students when the assailants in a Wagon R car began following and firing at the vehicle near Mohlanwal.

Ayesha, critically injured with a bullet lodged in her head, is currently on a ventilator at Lahore General Hospital. Due to the delicate nature of her condition, doctors have refrained from surgical intervention to avoid further complications.

Nimra, the other victim, sustained a bullet injury to her side arm but is reported to be in stable condition.

According to details, the private college tour, consisting of eight buses, left Pattoki for Kashmir at midnight. Ayesha, the youngest of four siblings, had embarked on the trip with her fellow students.

Her family received initial information that she was injured due to a mirror hit. However, subsequent calls revealed that she had been transported to Lahore Services Hospital by Rescue 1122, necessitating urgent attention.

Usman, Ayesha's brother, expressed shock and disbelief over the incident, emphasising that the family had no enmity with anyone. He condemned the act as a reprehensible and cowardly attack on innocent girls.

Police authorities, led by DIG Investigations Lahore Imran Kishwar, are actively pursuing the suspects through CCTV footage, CDR analysis, and human intelligence.

The initial investigations suggest a possible motive related to road rage, with the suspected driver resorting to gunfire after an altercation over overtaking near Mohlanwal.

While a Wagon R car has been traced in connection with the incident, the identity of the assailants remains unknown.

Further investigations and the apprehension of the suspects are crucial to unraveling the full details of the distressing incident, Kishwar added.
