I never felt that I resembled him, never tried to portray him: Sahir Lodhi on Shah Rukh Khan

TV personality believes he and the actor have completely different genres

Whilst on the Excuse Me Podcast, sitting across from host Ahmad Ali Butt, Sahir Lodhi was asked about the age-old Shah Rukh Khan tag associated with the television personality. Butt made Lodhi aware of the fact that when Lodhi met Khan, a meme went viral that jokingly referred to the latter as the former's lookalike. Lodhi seemed to be unaware of the same. "This is who we are as a nation," he said nonchalantly in response.

"Firstly, if you haven't seen my work in 18 years, then you will never see me," continued Lodhi. "I don't think...Our genres are completely different. He acts, I've always done hosting." Shedding light on their perceived resemblance, once Butt brought the same up, the television personality claimed he had "never felt that" and stated, "See, it's not my fault. Nor is it his."

He went on to state, "The thing is, he's a great man. The greatest thing about Shah Rukh that I can tell you is that when I met him, we hugged and we smiled and he said, 'You're a very good-looking man,' and I said, 'So are you sir.' He said, 'Of course, it's just the two of us.' That was him."

Lodhi continued, "I've always appreciated him a lot. He's a very big man, he does great work. I never felt that I resembled him, I've never tried to portray him on-screen or off-screen. The way I am now, I am the same on TV."

In a previous interview on the Cinevision YouTube channel, Lodhi reminisced about the time he spent with Khan and Kajol Devgan. "We were sitting with Shah Rukh and Kajol, and they were talking. Shah Rukh Sahab goes, 'What does it mean? Your name?' I said, 'It means magician.' Kajol goes, 'So do you do magic on your show?'" Lodhi recalled, laughing at the absurdity of the exchange.

Talking about Khan, Lodhi previously shared, "Shah Rukh Sahab's inner core, as far as I could tell in our brief meeting, he's a very soulful person. One question that I asked - and whenever I've seen his interviews - everyone has a hollowness about them. We're all empty in our own ways...Everyone has that deficit, I do too, for another reason. Shah Rukh Sahab's deficit, according to whatever I've studied about him - he lost his father a long time ago."

He continued, "I asked him, and I remember that moment till this day, 'You missed your father so much that you assumed his responsibility and took on his role.' And he just kept looking at me. I could never forget that. That reminds you, that when a person has that connection with you, you get to know their soul...All of us have a flaw, a deficit. And that deficit is a part of someone else's existence. And we are only complete when we find that deficit...Often, we do not find it."
