Some Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) formed in Hyderabad are currently facing a shortage of office buildings.
The TMC officials, in the name of office scarcity, have converted more than five rooms of a Govt Islamia Modern High School in Hussainabad to establish offices for sanitation and anti-encroachment departments.
However, the municipal officials claim that these offices were built under the orders of the Town Chairman Umair Maula Bakhsh Chandio.
Chandio, responding to a query by The Express Tribune said he has utilised the redundant rooms of the government school to shift some sections of the town office.
He said that workers were occupying six rooms of the building provided to TMC in Latifabad No4. Chandio said he has written to higher authorities to get the rooms vacated from TMC building.
According to reports the TMC were facing shortage of office space following the local bodies elections and the establishment of the municipal corporations.
The elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the TMCs took their oaths on June 19, after which these municipalities were fully operational.
However, despite more than five months passing, some TMCs are still facing a shortage of required offices. In response to this office scarcity, the TMC chairmen and the municipal administration officers have started searching for government buildings themselves, where a large number of rooms are available, so that municipal offices can be established there.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Qomi Awami Tehreek (QAT) District President Ghulam Nabi Soomro and leaders including Mashoq Chandio, Khadim Sammon, Abbas Pathan, Nazir Buledi, and Nazeer Lakho visited the said school.
They met Headmaster Noor Ahmed Chandio, who told them that new classrooms were built on the school; premises, however, TMC has taken over these rooms.
