A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker and several policemen were injured in a clash in Upper Dir district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Saturday.
The PTI had announced a workers’ convention in Sahibabad, Kotkay area of the district where a large number of the party supporters had gathered but the district administration had already imposed Section 144 in the district due to security threats and law and order situation under which more than five people could not gather in one place.
“A group of PTI workers violated the ban and marched towards the site of the convention. Police opened fire at the group which threw stones at them. Police fired at the group injuring one worker,” a local resident said, adding that the incident took place in the Chakyatan area of the district.
The injured has been identified as Shahalam who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
“The clash led to the closure of all roads as party workers started protesting against police high handedness which resulted in a severe traffic jam,” locals said, adding that a large contingent of police was deployed in the area to stop any untoward incident.
