Karate tournament to be held next month
Event to help Pakistan shortlist names for South Asian Championship.
KARACHI:
The Pakistan Karate Federation (PKF) will hold the Women’s National Championship from October 7 that will assist in shortlisting a 10-member squad for the South Asian Karate Championship which takes place in November in India.
The PKF will also send a men’s squad to France for the World Karate Championship in October.
According to the PKF President Muhammad Jehangir, the women’s championship takes place every year but this time it will serve as a selection process to unearth talent for the South Asian tournament.
“We don’t have any prominent women players but they’re improving,” Jehangir told The Express Tribune. “The team has won one gold medal at the South Asian Championship and a few bronze medals in regional tournaments.”
Jehangir added that Pakistan was sending a strong men’s team for the World Karate Championship next month.
