KARACHI:

Renowned singer and Strings veteran Faisal Kapadia is out with another song, this time with Islamabad-based vocalist Zoha Zuberi. Titled Hum Na Rahay, the song marks a second release by Twenty-Nine Records, Kapadia’s solo record label venture. It is written by Zuberi and produced by Ali Allahditta.

Embracing an 80s synth wave inspiration, Hum Na Rahay weaves a sonic tapestry that is both groovy and seamless. Zuberi's vocals take centre stage while Kapadia, true to form, enchants with his flawless baritone crooning. The vocal harmonies, particularly in Kapadia's verses, stand out and also mark the rare times we hear him harmonizing in a higher register.

The overlap between Kapadia and Zuberi creates a compelling contrast, making it an engaging listen. The catchy chorus, coupled with the diverse vocal textures, elevates the song to greater heights. The unconventional yet intriguing vocal effects add a unique layer to the composition, a testament to the skilled production by Allahdita.

However, amidst the musical brilliance, the song's lyrics, touching on themes of heartbreak and longing, appear to be its Achilles' heel. Despite this, Hum Na Rahay remains a commendable addition to Twenty-Nine Records' repertoire.

Zuberi, a self-taught singer, songwriter, and musician based in Islamabad, has journeyed from being a cover artist to establishing herself as an indie sensation. Known for tracks like Kuch Kehna Chahta Hun Me and Take Your Turn with Umair Ali, Zuberi's versatility allows her to experiment with different genres, collaborating with musicians like Jasim Haider and the Pindi Boys.

Kapadia, having previously released Jaadu, his first solo single post-Strings, continues to make waves in the music scene. His collaboration with Zuberi not only marks another triumph for Twenty-Nine Records but also solidifies the individual and collective talents of him and Zuberi in the ever-evolving landscape of Pakistani music.
