PPP wants ‘Bilawal to be next PM’

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) aimed to make its Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari the next prime minister and for that purpose, the party would contact the other political parties, Central Information Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, Kundi said that whenever, politicians from Punjab formed the government in the country, they resorted to political vendetta. On the other hand, he added, the PPP did not take political revenge.

Kundi praised the PPP Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for holding six workers conventions, which were addressed by Bilawal. “In his speeches, the PPP chairman highlighted the performance of the previous 16-month coalition government,” he said. “Our fight is not against the political parties but against inflation,” he said. Responding to a question about Bilawal’s call for veteran politicians to step aside, he said: “We respect the senior politicians, but now it’s time the politics should be handed over to the youth.”

Kundi reposed full confidence in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) but claimed that the caretaker Punjab government was giving protocol to the head of one political party. He added that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s narrative of ‘Vote Ko Izzat Do’ had vanished in Pakistan.

The PPP information secretary was critical of the privatisation of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM). “The PIA is being privatized under a well-thought-out plan. People from a political party are interested in buying the PIA,” he said.

He said that the PPP would contact other parties to make Bilawal the next prime minister but made it clear that would be no alliance with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Responding to another question, he said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) always dragged institutions into politics.
