Former provincial minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shaukat Ali Yousafzai was barred from boarding a Dubai-bound flight from Peshawar airport on Wednesday reportedly by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Sources claimed that the former minister was also detained by law enforcement personnel.
In a video, Yousafzai said that he was intercepted at the airport, and is unaware of why and who placed him under custody. The PTI leader claimed he was going to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah pilgrimage.
Yousafzai further claimed that he had been cleared and attained a boarding pass when he was stopped. He asked the reason for being detained, "my name is neither in the Exit Control List (ECL) nor is there any FIR registered against me".
The former provincial minister added that he has no rifts with any institutions and has always respected the institutions of the country throughout his political career.
