As many as 28,000 illegal Afghans have been sent to their country, according to the Inspector General of Sindh Police Riffat Mukhtar. Speaking during his visit to Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai’s shrine in Bhit Shah, Matiari district, he said that efforts are on to recruit 8,000 police officers purely on merit.
Expressing dismay on the deteriorating state of many Sindh police stations in the province, Mukhtar mentioned that a fund of Rs300 million has been allocated for the repair and renovation of many police stations in Karachi as well as Rs1.7 billion for the police stations in rest of the province. Referring to the salary disparities with Punjab police, the IG Sindh expressed optimism about equalising pay as the Sindh government’s revenue improves. Search operation A door-to-door search operation was carried out in Niazi Colony and Madina Colony of Sachal area.

The operation was led by SHO Aziz Bhatti, SHO Madina Town, SHO Sohrab Goth, SHO Site Superhighway, along with police parties under the supervision of DSPs. During the operation, the police knocked at the doors of residents and female searchers entered homes with the occupants’ permission.
They checked the documents and gathered information. Individuals, unable to produce legal documents were detained and transported to the SP Sohrab Goth office in Police Headquarters East buses for meticulous re-checking. The operation persisted for over two hours and the security officials faced no resistance from the area people.
