Pakistan condemns Israeli shelling near Jordanian field hospital in Gaza

FO terms bombardment a war crime and violation of International law

Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned the bombardment by Israeli occupation forces in the surroundings of a Jordanian field hospital in occupied Gaza, resulting in injuries to seven Jordanian staff members, the foreign office said in a statement.

Jordan's foreign ministry said seven staff members at its field hospital in northern Gaza were wounded by Israeli shelling.

Jordan’s foreign minister condemned the Israeli bombing, describing it as a "war crime." Ayman Safadi said that Jordan is awaiting the results of an investigation by its army into the bombing in order "to take necessary legal, diplomatic and political measures."

The United States also expressed deep concern that Jordanian medics were wounded in shelling near their field hospital in Gaza.

“This inhumane attack is the latest in a series of attacks on hospitals and medical facilities in Gaza and constitutes a war crime and a flagrant violation of International law,” the FO statement said.

“Pakistan joins the call for a thorough investigation into this barbaric incident and other attacks on medical facilities in Gaza and for holding the occupation forces accountable for the war crimes being perpetrated in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

The foreign office urged the international community to intervene to bring an end to the atrocities being committed in Gaza and for an immediate ceasefire to protect civilian lives and infrastructure.

Israel has launched relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Oct. 7.

The government media office in Gaza on Wednesday announced that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7 has risen to 11,500, including 4,710 children and 3,160 women.

“The number of deaths among medical personnel has reached 200,” the office said in a statement on Telegram.

It further said that 22 civil defence personnel and 51 journalists have also been killed, while the number of injured people has reached 29,800, with about 70% of them women and children.

Thousands of buildings, including hospitals, mosques and churches, have also been damaged or destroyed in Israel's relentless air and ground attacks on the besieged enclave since last month.

The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is around 1,200, according to official figures.
