KARACHI:

The cash-strapped Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) will have to sell scrap to pay the dues of retired employees. Pressurised by the labour union, the KWSC chief executive said he would clear the dues as soon as possible.

Scrap at KWSC installations will be auctioned and payments will be made to the employees, said KWSC CEO Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed during a meeting with United Workers Front CBA members at MD Secretariat Karsaz.

The authorised labour union or the Central Bargaining Authority (CBA) was represented by its Chairman Irshad Khan, President Abdul Qayyum, General Secretary Ikram Khan and other officials.

CBA officials informed Salahuddin employees have not received salaries for months, while the retired workers were waiting for pensions and other dues.

Salahuddin also assured the CBA of including Patel and Safi Hospitals on its panel to provide its employees access to superior medical services. Speaking to the CBA officials, he has asked that the CBA members along with the Deputy Director of Taxes launch a campaign to improve the income of the institution, with the CBA promising to assist fully.

The CEO of Water Corporation went on to say that all of the employees' issues will be resolved in collaboration with CBA.
