TANK:

Three policemen, including an SHO, were martyred in an ambush by heavily armed terrorists on a police convoy in Tank district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Saturday afternoon.

The police told The Express Tribune that a police party in four vehicles went to Kari Shah Noor village to recover an abducted girl.

On their way back, heavily armed terrorists ambushed the police. As a result, Shaheed Murid Akbar police station SHO Abdul Ali Khan, Constable Wahab Gul and Head Constable Muhammad Alam embraced martyrdom.

Five people, including the father of the abducted girl, DSP Chan Shah, Constable Ishfaq and Constable Riaz, were injured in the attack.

“The police also returned fire which resulted in a gunfight between both the parties which went on for half an hour,” a police official said, adding that the attackers fled as soon as District Police Officer (DPO) Iftikhar Ali Shah reached the spot with a police contingent.

All the injured and bodies were shifted to the local District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) where strict security measures had been put in place.

Relatives were allowed to enter the hospital after strict search as a precautionary measure.

Later, two constables who were in critical condition were shifted to Dera Ismail Khan for further treatment.

Terrorism has been on the rise ever since the fall of Kabul to Taliban following the withdrawal of the US forces from Afghanistan.

In September, the security forces killed nine terrorists and apprehended five others, including their facilitators, in separate intelligence based operations conducted in three districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said an intense fire exchange took place between the army troops and terrorists during the conduct of the first operation in the general area of Jani Khel of Bannu district.

As many as six terrorists were sent to hell while five were apprehended during the operation.

“These terrorists were involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces, including the facilitation of the motorcycle borne suicide attack on a military convoy at Jani Khel on Aug 31, in which nine brave sons of the soil laid their lives,” the military’s media wing said.
