The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) awarded honorary PhD degrees to eminent Seraiki poet Muhammad Shafi Shakir Shuja Abadi and journalist Javed Chaudhary at a special convocation on Saturday.
Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rahman awarded the degrees and the Chancellor along with Vice Chancellor Dr Naveed Akhtar.
The governor noted while addressing the participants of the event that Shakir Shuja Abadi is undoubtedly a strong representative of Seraiki language and literature and an asset of South Punjab. His services to the Seraiki language and literature are worth remembering.
IUB Vice Chancellor Dr Naveed Akhtar said, “Today is a day of pride for the entire university that eminent poet of the region Muhammad Shafi Shakir Shuja Abadi and university alumnus and media luminary Javed Chaudhary are being awarded honorary PhD degrees.”
