Police stopped burial of deceased, shifted bodies to hospital for postmortem

The alleged consumption of methylated spirit claimed three lives, including of two brothers, in Benazirabad district on Thursday.

The police stopped the burial of the deceased and shifted their bodies to the hospital for postmortem. DSP City Asif Arain informed that the families of the deceased, identified as as Kashif Shaikh, Adil Shaikh and Asad Khaskheli, had almost buried their dead but the police timely reached the graveyard and shifted the bodies to Peoples Medical College Hospital.

He said that all three deceased were the residents of Hussaini Road area in Nawabshah. Both the brothers were married with kids while Khaskheli was their friend, the DSP told.

He claimed that the police have recovered the bottles of the spirit which they had consumed in their last gathering.

Separately, the local residents staged a protest against the unhindered sale of narcotics, mainpuri, gutka, liquor and spirit in the town.

Last month, consuming methylated spirit by men in the Tando Ghulab Laghari area of Badin district claimed six lives. The case was lodged under sections 322 and 337 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the state’s complaint by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Zulfiqar Nizamani.

The police, subsequently, launched a crackdown in the town and also arrested Suneel Kumbar Lohano, owner of a pharmacy in Tando Ghulab Laghari, for allegedly selling the spirit to the people including those who lost their lives.
