Rabid dogs injure 25

Residents receive no aid from authorities

BAHAWALNAGAR:

As many as 25 people were injured after being attacked by rabid dogs in a bazaar on Wednesday.

A rabid dog entered Mandi Sadiq Ganj main market and bit 20 individuals, leaving them injured. The victims were shifted to RHC Mandi Sadiq Ganj, while bystanders started chasing the dog. After the chase, the dog was killed. Meanwhile, another dog entered the market and injured another five people before escaping the scene. The dog stayed in the market for three hours and despite repeated calls to the district administration, no help was provided, nor did any officer come to the spot.

Rizwan, a resident of Model Town, told The Express Tribune that finally, after much effort, they caught a few stray dogs and released them in a nearby rural area. However, they returned before Rizwan and his companions could reach home.

District Officer Regulation Chaudhry Nauman Sarwar told The Express Tribune that the dog was a domestic pet which became rabid and entered the market. He added that both dogs involved in the incident were killed and action is being taken against stray dogs.
