Housing societies without garbage site to face action

Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha has instructed the director general of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to issue show-cause notices to housing societies without a designated dumping site to explain where they dispose of their waste, it emerged on Tuesday.

The commissioner said that the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) should enter into a contract with the housing societies – around 74 in the division – to facilitate the dumping of waste at the Losar landfill site.

Otherwise, their registrations would be cancelled.

He also instructed the RWMC to identify another landfill site, where another transfer station can be constructed.
