KARACHI, PAKISTAN:

The police crackdown against illegal immigrants in Karachi continued for the seventh day.

A heavy contingent of district east police under the leadership of Sohrab Goth SP Uzair Ahmed conducted a search operation in and around Superhighway Jamali Goth.

Police transferred the detained people to the SP Sohrab Goth office where a NADRA Help Desk has been set up to verify the documents of Afghan nationals.

During the search operation, the police closed the entry and exit points of the area and carried out house to house search. Lady cops entered the homes, questioned the womenfolk.

Men were told to come out with whatever documents they have for checking. Their identity cards were checked with the help of Talash app.

SP Uzair Ahmed said that during the search operation in Jamali Goth, more than 500 suspicious immigrants were detained and shifted to the office. The documents of the suspected persons are being scrutinized.

He said that in the first phase, only those immigrants who do not have any legal documents are being detained. Immigrants are being moved to a holding camp. However, the migrants who have all the documents including Afghan Citizen Cards (ACC) or Proof of Registration (POR), are not being detained.

Efforts are being made by the NADRA Help Desk to verify the documents of at least 1,000 immigrants a day. He said that the police have identified the areas where the number of migrants is high and the operation is being conducted in phases.
