Wheat to be grown over 62k acres

Staffers and officials directed to ensure agricultural quality

SARGODHA:

The agriculture department (extension) announced that wheat crops would be cultivated over 62,000 acres of land in tehsil Sillanwali this year, while a target yield of 1.338 tons per acre has been set.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Assistant Director Agriculture Sohail Ibrahim said that the government would prioritise reducing the cost of wheat yields so that growers could ensure full produce of wheat during Rabi season. He directed the relevant staffers and officials to ensure the supply of quality agricultural inputs to the market. He also warned that action would be taken against those involved in selling substandard agricultural inputs or selling seeds and fertilizer on the black market.

Assistant Director Ibrahim called upon farmers to cultivate wheat over the maximum possible area, as well as to ensure the adequate application of fertilizer and water to their crops. He congratulated farmers for exceeding 100 percent of the cotton target and urged them to achieve the target with the same spirit.
