Zoo closes doors for renovations

Facilities like E-ticketing will also be available

Lahore’s Safari Zoo on Raiwind Road will remain closed for the next three months from November 10th, due to the start of the first phase of a zoo upgradation project. Once the renovations are completed, the zoo will be in line with international standards.

According to Project Director Implementation of Master Plan of Safari Zoo Lahore Mudassir Hassan, under the said plan, 11 different species of indigenous and non-native wild animals will be introduced into the zoo, including elephants, rhinoceros, giraffes and black jaguars among others. Special enclosures will be constructed during the projects, due to which animals residing in the existing enclosures will be shifted from one place to another. Additonally, the African Safari, Desert Safari and Salt Range will be constructed and a night safari facility will also be offered to visitors. A magnificent aquarium will also be built to house 142 species of fish and other marine life. E-ticketing will also be available to visitors.

Hassan said that the project will require large-scale construction work, so the decision was taken to close the Safari Zoo from November 10th for the next three months. He extended his apologies for this temporary closure to tourists, wildlife enthusiasts and other potential visitors.

The project director also expressed his determination to assure all citizens that the project management will complete the project within the stipulated period and reopen it for tourists.
