Prudent utilisation of resources stressed

Main reason for the imbalance in the society was an unfair distribution of wealth says BISP Chairman

LAHORE:

Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairman Dr Amjad Saqib has said that there is no shortage of resources in the country but a need for their proper utilisation.

Addressing the degree awarding ceremony of the Punjab University School of Economics on Sunday, he said the main reason for the imbalance in the society was an unfair distribution of wealth.

He said economists should take steps to promote entrepreneurship. It is possible to change the society by connecting the knowledge of economics with ethics, he added.

Former finance minister Dr Hafeez A Pasha said the economic conditions of Pakistan were on the way to improvement and the acceleration in the stock exchange, the strengthening of the rupee and the record profits of the commercial banks were positive indicators.

He said there would be more stability in the country’s economy after the elections.

He commended the PU for providing 70 per cent of the expenses for providing high quality education to the students.

Degrees were awarded to 141 students of BS Economics, MPhil and PhD on the occasion.
