PTI senator moves IHC for production order

Ejaz Chaudhry said that preventing a member from participating in Senate sessions was violation of the Constitution

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ejaz Chaudhry on Friday approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking issuance if his production order by the Senate chairman to allow him to attend the ongoing Senate session.

In his petition, Senator Ejaz said that preventing a member of the Senate from participating in the sessions was a violation of the Constitution. He added that he represented Punjab in the Senate and his participation in the proceedings was required to ensure full representation of the province in the house.

Ejaz is currently imprisoned at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore in connection with a case related to the May 9 violence. His petition had made Senate chairman, Senate secretary, Cabinet Division secretary, interior secretary, Punjab chief secretary and Kot Lakhpat Jail superintendent respondents.

Ejaz requested the court that the Senate chairman should be instructed to issue his production order. He further requested the court to order the other respondents to make arrangements for his participation in the Senate sessions in the future.
