Rs50m in smuggled goods seized

District Police intercepted consignments of non-customs-paid goods worth more than Rs50 million, including mobile phones and Iranian diesel, over the past three days.
According to the details, Checkpost Sakhi Sarwar police thwarted an attempt to smuggle non-customs goods and seized 120 tyres worth Rs4 million, 250 mobile phones, 45 packets of betel, one sack of cloth, two sacks of pistachios, three bundles of plastic parachute, one bag of plastic parachute, one bag of Chinese salt and 13,000 litres of Iranian diesel.
All of the aforementioned goods were handed over to customs authorities after taking legal action.
DPO Ahmad Mohiuddin told The Express Tribune that on the directives of the Punjab government, strict checking was being taken at entry and exit points across the district to prevent smuggling.
The aforementioned shipment was being smuggled from Balochistan to Punjab. After legal action, items worth millions of rupees have been handed over to the customs authorities.
In this regard, DPO Mohiuddin said those who smuggle non-custom goods will be dealt with sternly and no concessions of any kind will be given to smugglers.
He added that a huge amount of non-customs diesel, petrol, cigarettes and other items were seized by customs officials last week as well.
Further action has also been taken by the Border Military Police and several vehicles have been seized.
