Telenor Group seeks urgent policy reform

Secretary says new infrastructure-sharing framework, proposed spectrum-sharing mechanism are important milestones

Federal IT and Telecom Secretary Hassan Nasir Jamy has said that the government is taking vigorous steps to provide maximum facilities to the telecom sector.

During a meeting with Telenor Group Head of Asia Borre Furberg on Friday, the secretary said that caretaker IT Minister Dr Umar Saif had special interest in promoting the IT and telecom sector in the country.

He pointed out that the recently approved infrastructure-sharing framework and the proposed spectrum-sharing mechanism were important milestones that would reduce operational costs of telecom operators.

“We are proud of the contributions Telenor has made since 2004, through our investments in Telenor Pakistan and Telenor Microfinance Bank, in bringing connectivity and digital finavncial services to millions of customers, enabling them to live productive digital lives,” the Asia head of Telenor Group remarked.

He added that the business and investment environment in the telecom sector had been challenging for some time and urgent policy reform was needed.
