ATC dismisses Yasmin Rashid's bail plea

Social media activist Sanam Javed's plea seeking prevention of arrest dismissed by LHC

The anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday rejected the bail application of former Punjab health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid in the Shadmaan police station attack case.

Judge Arshad Javed of the ATC presided over the hearing.

During the hearing, the prosecutor informed the court that Yasmin is currently in police custody and is under physical remand in connection with the Shadman police station case. He also added that new charges have been filed in the case.

Subsequently, the former minister's bail plea was not entertained, and the ATC ultimately dismissed it.

On the other hand, the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected a plea that sought to prevent the arrest of social media activist Sanam Javed in undisclosed cases.

The LHC requested details of the cases registered against Sanam, expected to be provided on October 19.

The petitioner's lawyer revealed that Sanam had been previously arrested by the police but was never produced in any court. Subsequently, a writ petition was filed to ascertain her whereabouts.

It was then discovered that she had been arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO) regulations. Later on, Sanam was arrested in connection with another case.

The petitioner expressed concerns about the repeated arrests of her client and sought assurances that she would not be arrested again in the future.

The LHC, after hearing the case, adjourned the proceedings until October 19 and requested a report from the public prosecutor regarding the situation.
