SWABI:

Around 1,300 doctors and the nursing and paramedical staff of three medical training institute (MTI) hospitals have not been paid their salaries in the Swabi district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) without inviting any attention from the quarters concerned.

Official sources told The Express Tribune that the province’s previous PTI government had declared three of its health care institutes MTIs and had recruited their blue-eyed people at large salaries. As a result, they said, the Bacha Khan Medical Complex (BKMC) Shah Mansoor, the Tehsil Hospital Topi and the Tehsil Hospital Chota Lahore have been passing through a severe financial crisis due to which they are unable to pay their employees.

“Around 60 to 70 per cent of the annual budget is spent on the payment of salaries to a few dozen people, thus leaving the MTI hospitals with no funds to pay thousands of their employees,” said a health official, adding that the situation had placed employees and doctors under great stress.
