Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Technical Training Monday discussed the issue of regularising daily wage employees of federal government educational institutions.
The committee met under the chairmanship of Senator Irfan Siddiqui.
Director-General of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), Amjad Ahmed, informed the committee that a letter had been sent to the Accountant General Pakistan Revenue (AGPR) regarding salary payments.
The committee chairman inquired why these employees had not been regularised, despite the committee's recommendations back in 2013. It was revealed during the meeting that female teachers had been serving in these institutions for twelve years and were facing economic exploitation.
Participants emphasised the need to implement the recommendations put forth by the Ministry of Education's committee.
FDE DG assured that teachers recommended by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) would be posted within a week. Furthermore, the advertisement sent to FPSC for the posting of Daily Wages Teachers who have successfully cleared FPSC exams would be withdrawn.
The committee issued a directive to post these teachers by October 13.
To resolve the issue of daily wage workers, FDE DG suggested that the education minister, the vice-chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University, and the secretary of education should convene to discuss the matter.
During the meeting, the National Technology Council Pakistan Bill was also discussed. Officials from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) informed the committee that a committee had been formed, led by the chairman of HEC, to address this issue. The committee is expected to submit its report by October 20.
Furthermore, the committee directed FDE DG to immediately reassign teachers who had been posted to administrative positions back to their educational institutions. Education Minister Madad Ali Sindhi confirmed that he had already issued orders for implementation.
