Minister affirms fast-tracking CPEC projects

Saeed highlights that Gwadar is being transformed into a world-class port and logistics hub

Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Sami Saeed, on Friday reaffirmed the country’s unwavering commitment to expediting the ongoing projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). These remarks were made during his meeting with Yu Bo, Chairman of the China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC), as stated in a news release.

Saeed highlighted that Gwadar is being transformed into a world-class port and logistics hub, which will help generate new employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth. Additionally, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to addressing any outstanding issues related to CPEC with high priority, emphasising the existence of a high-level mechanism established by China and Pakistan to address concerns.

COPHC chairman provided an update on the progress of the Gwadar Free Zone and Gwadar Free Port. He stated that the initial stage of development for Gwadar port and city, along with the Gwadar Free Zone, had been successfully completed. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further increasing cooperation in the context of the CPEC.
