The election commission had set October 5 to 7, 2023 as the last date for submission of nomination papers for by elections on four seats of Karachi as well as seats of nine chairmen, 16 vice chairman, eight-member district council and 41 general members in 21 districts of the province.
Election will be held on November 5 from 8:00am to 5:00pm without any break. The election commission will announce the results on November 8.
A total of 100 candidates have submitted their nomination forms till date while Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab and Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad will submit their nomination papers on October 7 (today).
Murtaza Wahab will contest from UC 13 of Saddar Town, UC 3 of Mauripur Town and UC 7 of Ibrahim Hyderi. Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad will submit his nomination paper from UC 7 Gadap Town. According to the rules, mayor, deputy mayor and other members of local government should have to contest election within six months after winning election.
Checking of nomination papers will be done until October 11 and appeals against decisions of the returning officers (RO) could be filed until October 16. Decisions on these appeals will be made by 19th of the current month. Last date of withdrawal of papers is October 21 and election symbols will be allotted on October 22.
On the other hand, announcement of successful candidates on reserved seats in Union Councils and Union Committees will be made on October 19 while the names of the successful candidates on reserved seats in councils, committees and corporations will be announced on October 20. Total number of reserved seats is 812.
