KARACHI:

Amid raging crimes in urban centres and dacoits’ raj in the rural areas, the law and order situation in Sindh remains precarious. The police force appears helpless in stabilising the situation. But surprisingly, its armoured vehicles and mobile vans in three districts alone have consumed diesel and petrol worth Rs350 million in financial year 2022-23.

The law and order situation in Ghotki, Kashmore, and Shikarpur has remained unsatisfactory throughout 2022 and 2023, making it challenging for the police to maintain peace. They struggled to crack down on large kidnapping gangs, yet, during this period, the police in these three districts utilised Rs350 million worth of fuel.

According to official figures, in Ghotki, 70 mobile vans and 17 armoured vehicles consumed diesel and gasoline worth Rs180 million in the financial year 2022-23. In Kashmore, 16 armoured vehicles and 65 police mobile units used fuel worth Rs70 million in that year. The police in Shikarpur spent Rs100 million on diesel and petrol for their 70 mobile vans and seven armoured vehicles in the said period.
