Chief of Army Staff Gen Syed Asim Munir on Friday underscored the need for synergy among all the relevant departments for gainful effects of the “landmark initiatives” which aimed at addressing various challenges facing the country.

During his visit to Karachi, Gen Asim attended a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee, which was also attended by caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar besides, high civil and military officials.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the military, the COAS received briefing from the relevant officials on various issues, including the revised National Action Plan (NAP), the operation in riverine areas of Sindh and the repatriation of illegal aliens.

Other matters reviewed in the meeting included the security of foreign nationals employed in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, non-CPEC projects or the private sector, according to an ISPR statement issued here.

The ISPR statement said that the army chief and other participants of the meeting were also briefed on the foreign currency regularisation measures, progress on the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) initiatives in Sindh, Green Sindh initiatives and the Karachi Transformation Plan.

Addressing the meeting, Gen Asim emphasised the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) as well as other government departments would continue their efforts against the illegal activities with full force, the ISPR said.

“The LEAs and other government departments will continue the enforcement actions against spectrum of illegal activities with full force to deny pilferage of resources and economic losses that the country suffers due to these activities,” the statement read.

It added that the army chief stressed the need for synergy among all relevant departments for gainful effects of the landmark initiatives. The participants affirmed that state institutions, government departments and people were united for progress and prosperity of the province, the ISPR added.
