A young man allegedly gunned down his uncle’s accused killer on the premises of a court on Thursday.
The accused Amanat Ali, a resident of 82 Shumali, was produced in a local court on Thursday. Meanwhile, Raheel, dressed in a lawyer's outfit, allegedly opened fire on Amanat in the court, killing him on the spot.
After the shooting, the police arrested Raheel.
During an interrogation, Raheel claimed that Amanat Ali had killed his uncle some time ago, after which he fled to Saudi Arabia.
He added that he avenged his uncle's murder. After the incident, the DPO reached the courthouse with a contingent of police.
The shooting on the court premises spread panic throughout the area and all cases being heard were postponed.
Lawyers also protested against the incident, expressing serious concern over the carrying of weapons inside the court. They demanded improved security at the courts.
Upon receiving the information about the incident, DPO Muhammad Faisal Kamran reached the courthouse and inspected the scene himself.
On this occasion, he said that all aspects of the case are being investigated, while the accused has been detained. He added that the security of the courts is also being tightened.
On the other hand, RPO Sargodha Shariq Kamal Siddiqui took notice of the entry of an armed person onto the court premises and issued orders to take action against the negligent policemen.
Police spokesman Sheikh Safdar told The Express Tribune that the deceased Amanat Ali was wanted by police in a murder case and was arrested by Interpol in Saudi Arabia one month ago. A case was registered against the accused under the provisions of murder and a red notice was issued by Interpol. He added that the extradition of the accused was possible due to the close coordination of Interpol Islamabad with Interpol Riyadh.
The accused Amanat Ali was arrested in Riyadh and brought to Islamabad, where he was handed over to the FIA.
He was later taken into custody by Sargodha Police and reached the city, where he was produced in court for the first time.
After the incident, a video of the accused Raheel was uploaded to social media, in which he confessed to killing Amanat Ali and said that he had committed the act to avenge the murder of his maternal uncle. He added that he committed the incident without anyone’s help.
