Bollywood actor-turned-producer, Aamir Khan, announced his next production on Tuesday in an Instagram post. Taking to the official Instagram handle of Aamir Khan production, the Lagaan star shared that his next film will star the Gadar 2 actor, Sunny Deol in the lead role and will revolve around Lahore during the Partition.

Khan went on to reveal the title of the film, Lahore, 1947, and added the project will be helmed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The abovementioned filmmaker made his directorial debut with Deol’s 1990 film Ghayal. The film was a massive success at the box office.

The duo later delivered two more blockbusters, these include Damini (1993) and Ghatak (1996). Santoshi has also delivered a massively hit film, Andaz Apna Apna (1994), with Khan. The film, which also starred Salman Khan in the lead role, went on to become a cult classic.

“I, and the entire team at AKP, are most excited and happy to announce our next, starring Sunny Deol, directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi, titled Lahore, 1947," the Taare Zameen Par actor penned in a note.

"We look forward to collaborating with the immensely talented Sunny, and one of my favourite directors Raj Santoshi. The journey we have embarked on promises to be the most enriching. We seek your blessings, A,” he wrote. The two stars' collaboration thrilled their fans. Up till now, not much is known about the movie's plot.

Khan's last production, Laal Singh Chaddha, failed to attract moviegoers to the cinemas. The film was later released on Netflix and was well-received by the audience. Deol's recent offering, Gadar 2, however, went on to become one of the biggest films of the year, with over INR5.26 billion at the box office.
