The right person: All the times Mahira spoke about Salim before tying the knot

The signs were always there

Mahira Khan and Salim Karim recently tied the knot in what seemed to be a beautiful ceremony. While only two or three videos have been released, courtesy of the star's manager and brother, one snippet was enough to know that the star and her beau were overcome by emotion. Walking towards each other, their embrace spoke a thousand words, and thus, congratulatory messages poured in. 

However, to many, this news was surprising. The biggest star in the country had managed to keep her relationship private, as his her right. But little do we know that the superstar had been dropping hints and talking about Salim in hushed tones all this time. 

In January 2020, Mahira posted an image, with the location tag indicating the whereabouts to be Tulum in Mexico, wherein a group of people were seen hanging out. Salim was seated next to Mahira in this series of images. The caption read, "Life has taught me...you can travel to the most beautiful places, plan the best trips, land a dream role but if you don’t have the right people beside you it means nothing. Moments like these with people that matter make everything worth it."

Then, later on, in 2020, ace designer HSY asked Mahira about her love life, and she shared a beautiful line from her famous show, Humsafar, to express her feelings for Salim. She poetically recollected, "There’s a line in Humsafar, which I thought was beautiful, where Ashar says to Khirad, ‘Pata nahi tum mujhe kis naiki kay badlay main miley ho (I don’t know what I did right to deserve you.) I think the same about him.” Mahira continued, "I don’t know what I have done in my life, [but I] must have done something good because of which Allah blessed me with him." HSY gracefully concluded her thought, saying, “Because of which Allah blessed you with Salim.”

Perhaps the most obvious hint for one and all was, when, in August 2021, Mahira put up a post that said, "My love. You make me better. The right love. The right person. You are." She added the caption, "My love," with a white heart emoji and tagged Salim in the image on her Instagram.

In 2022, Mahira confirmed her love during an interview with veteran actor Samina Peerzada. When asked if she was in love, Mahira smiled and nodded. She admitted to being shy about discussing it but didn't reveal the person's identity, mentioning that he wasn't from the entertainment industry.

The star smiled sheepishly and nodded her head. "Yeah, I think I am in love." When Samina went on to congratulate her, the actor added, "I don't know, I am so shy about it." Samina then inquired if she would know the person Mahira had fallen for, to which the former VJ had asserted, "You might but he's not from the industry." 

Samina then asked the star if she would want to name the person, and she shared that she wouldn't. "This is one thing I would want to protect with my life. I want to protect my child," the actor said, adding, "At first, I wanted to show everyone what an adorable baby Azlan is, but now I've become more cautious. If you notice, you really wouldn't see Azlan's face full front, it'd either be a side pose or a back pose." Samina ensured her that she had all the right in the world to do that. "I know we shouldn't be so superstitious and I wasn't someone who you would call a vehmi, but now I'm just like I don't want any Nazar (evil eye)," the actor shared.

In August 2023, making an appearance on the FWhy Podcast with Frieha Altaf, Mahira spoke about the challenges and evolution of her relationship with her ex-husband and how they have become a "modern family" that respects each other's partners. The common thread of unconditional love for their child has kept them united. Towards the end of the podcast, Frieha commented on how Mahira now has the love of her life, to which Mahira blushed, smiled, and agreed. Regarding her privacy and personal life, the star asserted, "There are some things that are mine, and they are mine."
