Gang behind 328 illegal transplants busted

Naqvi says doctor continued practice despite being arrested five times

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced that Lahore police have apprehended the leader and members of a gang involved in doing 328 unlawful kidney transplants.

The team that busted the gang will be awarded Rs500,000, he announced at a news conference, confirming that a doctor, Fawad Mukhtar, and all members of his gang had been apprehended.

Dr Mukhtar had allegedly unlawfully extracted 328 people’s kidneys and performed transplant surgeries by duping, dodging or luring the victims.

The caretaker CM disclosed that the doctor involved in the case had been arrested five times and he had continued his illegal practice after getting released every time. He said a police team conniving the escape of Dr Mukhtar had been suspended.

He also disclosed that the death of three patients due to gang’s surgeries had also been confirmed.

Chinese National Day

Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi also called on Acting Chinese Consul General Cao Ke at the Chinese Consulate and congratulated him on the National Day of the People’s Republic of China.

The caretaker CM, acting Chinese consul general, caretaker information minister and chief secretary jointly cut a cake on the occasion. Naqvi presented a bouquet and traditional sweets to the Chinese diplomat.

The acting consul general thanked Naqvi for visiting the Chinese Consulate on the National Day of China.
