With skyrocketing inflation and extraordinary costs of living, suicides have become shockingly commonplace. In a chillingly similar situation in June of this year, a 30-year-old widow residing near Pansera committed suicide and poisoned her teenage daughter allegedly after an altercation with her brother.

Saba Ghafoor allegedly gave poison to her 13-year-old daughter Uman and also consumed the toxic substance herself afterwards.

Both the mother and daughter were transported to the Allied Hospital, where Saba succumbed to the poisoning, while Uman was battling for her life during treatment.

Police handed the body to the family after completing legal formalities.

Meanwhile, a case was filed against the mother-in-law, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law of a woman over setting her on fire.

The incident had occurred in Chandian Talwan.

The victim, 22-year-old Kainat, is in a critical condition in the Allied Hospital.

Upon receiving a complaint from her brother Ali Sher, Millat Town police registered a case under Section 336B of Pakistan Penal Code and initiated a search operation to apprehend the suspects.

In July 2022, a woman attempted suicide by jumping into a canal in Khurrianwala with her three daughters following a domestic dispute. Police reached the spot and started the operation.

Police said a 39-year-old resident of Mohalla Sakhi Sarwarabad and her three daughters, aged 7, 4 and 3, jumped into the Canal Rakh Branch and attempted suicide. Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 personnel were informed by citizens.

The teams rushed to the spot and rescued the mother and her three daughters from the canal, before shifting them to Civil Hospital. Madina Town Police arrived on the scene after receiving information on the incident.
