30 held for ‘bear baiting’
In a landmark operation, Alipur city police arrested 30 individuals allegedly involved in promoting bear baiting and rescued three bears on Sunday. Led by Sub Inspector Abdul Maalik, the police team raided the residence of Mehr Ahmed, an alleged sponsor of bear baiting.
Bear baiting is a brutal practice where two dogs are forced to fight a bear, causing immense pain and suffering to these creatures.
This horrifying practice has persisted as a social evil across South Punjab for years, with many individuals gambling on the outcomes of these fights.
The local community applauded the swift and decisive action taken by the city police and the rescue of the bears and the arrest of the promoters has sent a powerful message that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated.
This crackdown marks a significant step towards eradicating bear baiting and animal welfare in general.
Police officials informed the media that the arrested individuals would face legal consequences for their involvement in bear baiting.
