Authorities and tourism management companies should prioritise green investments in services and infrastructure at the tourist destinations in the country, said speakers at a seminar held in connection with World Tourism Day.
This year’s theme was “Tourism and Green Investments”. The seminar was organised by Devcom-Pakistan, ICLC and National Skills University (NSU) the other day.
The speakers added that using non-timber fuel, alternate energy, water conservation, solid waste management and environment-friendly practices should be promoted to ensure sustainable eco-tourism.
Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Managing Director Aftab ur Rehman Rana was the chief guest while other speakers included NSU VC Dr Muhammad Mukhtar, Rural Development Foundation (RDF) President Muhammad Khan and Devcom-Pakistan Executive Director Munir Ahmed.
Rana said that Pakistan’s tourism and hospitality industry contributes 3.5 percent to the country’s GDP.
