The Council on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) approved in its first meeting a proposal to send a summary to the Punjab chief minister for the formation of special courts for differently-abled people.
CRPD Secretary Mudassar Riaz Malik explained the aims and objectives of the formation of the council under the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act 2022.
The council formed a committee for the recruitment of its staff. Law and regulation, executive, education, health, sports and social protection committees were also formed.
The members approved the setting up of district welfare and rehabilitation units, disability assessment boards and the SOPs of a Disabled Persons Management Information System.
A representative of Pakistan Baitul Mal will be included in each district assessment board and provincial assessment committee will also be formed. Section 31 of the law fixes 3% quota for differently-abled persons in the government and private departments.
