A Corporate Conference held on Monday evening emphasised the critical importance of embracing modernisation and innovation in business while prioritising people-centric development, particularly during uncertain times. The event brought together prominent figures from various sectors and underscored the role of professional accountants in effectively managing business affairs.
Addressing the audience, Senator Waleed Iqbal delivered a passionate keynote speech, highlighting the qualities required for success in today’s uncertain business landscape. He stressed the need for a focus on human development and improving living standards. Iqbal pointed out that the UN Declaration of 1986 places immense focus on the Right to Development, advocating for equal rights in social and economic uplift.
He called upon corporate entities to prioritise inclusive and participatory development, condemning gender and race discrimination in the pursuit of sustainable progress. He cited China’s achievement in lifting 800 million people out of poverty through inclusive development as an example.
Representing the ACCA organisation, Asad Hameed discussed the untapped development potential of South Punjab, describing it as a vital economic hub. He emphasised the region’s rich civilisation and its strategic significance for national development.
Hameed called for empowering youth with skills to drive the region’s progress and urged greater investment in sectors such as IT, agriculture, and digital transformation.
Hameed also highlighted the shortage of professional accountants in Pakistan, contrasting it with countries like Ireland, which has a significantly higher number of accountants despite a smaller population.
