Despite several announcements by the district administration, the plan to establish a sugar stall at subsidised rate of Rs150 per kg remains unaccomplished even after 10 days.
The stalls are absent from Tuesday, Friday and Sunday Bazaars. Currently, sugar is being sold at Rs175 to Rs180 per kg in the inner city areas while it is being sold at Rs185 per kg in suburban areas.
According to sources, Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta, Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema and Health Minister Dr Jamal Nasir issued daily announcements throughout the week, promising to make sugar available at a subsidised rate of Rs150 per kg through stalls at various intersections and on trucks in Sunday bazaars.
They also conducted substantial raids across the district, leading to the confiscation of large quantities of sugar from undisclosed warehouses.
