ISLAMABAD:

More than 100 artworks, each depicting the theme of global peace, social justice, and universal human rights, were displayed at the Government Polytechnic Institute for Women (GPIW) in H-8, Islamabad to mark ‘International Day of Peace’.

Themed ‘Actions for peace’, the artworks are mostly designed, painted and prepared by female students from different schools and colleges in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The poster exhibition was organised by the Devcom-Pakistan (Development Communications Network) in collaboration with the Dazzler, Islamabad Crescent Lions Club (ICLC), Islamabad Devcom Centennial Leo Club (IDCLC) and Government Polytechnic Institute for Women H-8 Islamabad.

Devcom-Pakistan Executive Director Munir Ahmed while introducing the peace poster exhibition said the competition was organised among the students to inculcate the passion for understanding the concepts of peace in society and globally. They have painted many meaningful images of hope through their creative expression in different mediums including oil on canvas, acrylics on canvas, charcoal, pastels, watercolours and sketching with colour pencils, he added.

Renowned artist and senior educator of Cambridge Art and Design at Westminster, Riffat Ara Baig, presided as the chief juror for this event. She lauded the students for showcasing their creative aptitude and thoughtful expressions through meaningful compositions.

The compelling visuals serve as effective conduits for conveying messages of peace and tolerance, she said adding that the younger generation has adeptly shed light on elements and forces that challenge peace, demonstrating their profound understanding of these complex issues.

Meanwhile, GPIW Principal Kausar Parveen highlighted the initiatives that the government has taken to empower young girls to narrow down the economic disparity.

Several steps have been taken to enhance vocational education and youth grooming through a variety of initiatives and programmes, she said.
