Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vijay Varma, and Jaideep Ahlawat's latest Netflix offering, Jaane Jaan, has had an explosive digital release, with fans and critics either singing praises of the Sujoy Ghosh directorial or comparing it to the filmmaker's other offerings. The plot, as described on IMDb, revolves around "a single mother and her daughter who commit a crime and a neighbour who helps them cover it up amidst a police investigation," has been called compelling and riveting by many, with individual performances also being showered with applause.

Indian portals like NDTV have lauded the film for having "a taut script, spiffy dialogues (by Sujoy and Raj Vasant), first-rate performances and a keen sense of place serve to enhance the mystery that surrounds a lonesome math teacher who goes about his daily chores with mechanical detachment and a woman who moves in next door and becomes an object of silent, obsession for the reclusive man."

The Hindu specifically shone a spotlight on Jaideep's performance, stating that the actor "shines" and "steals a march" next to Kareena and Vijay. Their review reads, "The film, however, belongs to [Jaideep]. This is one of his most physically absorbed roles. He plays a gentle giant, his hulking frame cutting bewitchingly through the evening mist. At times, a smile appears unexpectedly on his pockmarked face, like rain clouds in the desert. I also loved the absolute serenity — and, it must be added, sensuality — with which [Jaideep] performs a jujutsu drill. He looks, to cite Bruce Lee, ‘like water making its way through cracks.'"

However, the Hindustan Times remained unconvinced. "The benchmark Sujoy Ghosh created for himself with the Vidya Balan-starrer Kahaani is tough to match. And it's evident in most of his subsequent projects where he donned the director's hat. With Jaane Jaan, the trailer raised high hopes, and things looked pretty exciting, but the film barely manages to live up to that hype or even come close to the intrigue quotient it set out to create," an excerpt from the publication's review reads.

On the other hand, the X stratosphere is abuzz with a flurry of praises. One user wrote, "Jaane Jaan delves into the depths of devotion, unravelling the complexities of relationships and the sacrifices one makes for those they love. It's a poignant reminder that even in a world dominated by logic, emotions can be the most powerful force." Another highlighted, "A perfect crime thriller with many plot twists and surprises. Jaideep and Kareena are the highlight of the movie. Even Vijay has done his party beautifully."

Yet another user of the microblogging site penned, "Give this man an Oscar or at least a National Award for this role. Jaideep sir has done a fabulous job as the teacher in Jaane Jaan. Worth watching. Sometimes, the story can give you Drishyam vibes. No vulgar scenes. Family friendly. Not for kids." Another wrote, "Jaane Jaan is a terrific film. It is well-paced and is totally engrossing and engaging. Sujoy has crafted this film so brilliantly that it paints a chilling and well-directed cinematic picture! Cinematography is top-notch!"

The film hit Netflix screens on September 21 and is available for all to watch on the OTT platform. While a mixed bag from the reviews, if the trailer alone is to be believed, one can go into the offering with the assumption that the ride is bound to be wild, if nothing else.
