ISLAMABAD:

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), the sole operator of Mari East Block, has announced a major gas discovery at the Chak 214-1 exploratory well, situated in the Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab.

The Chak 214-1 well, part of OGDCL’s proactive exploration efforts, was drilled on June 29, 2023, utilising the company’s in-house expertise and reaching a depth of 1,851 metres.

Based on the results of wireline logs, the Drill Stem Test-1 in Dunghan Formation indicated a gas flow rate of 1.1 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) at the wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 230 pounds per square inch (PSI). Additionally, the Drill Stem Test-2 in Sui Main Limestone showed a gas flow rate of 1.31 mmscfd at WHFP of 260 PSI. “This discovery represents a historic achievement, demonstrating OGDCL’s commitment to unlocking the hydrocarbon potential of the region,” the company said.
