Man shoots three before turning gun on himself

Police say motive for the killing wasn’t immediately known

A man killed his wife, stepson and sister-in-law in West Colony in the limits of Saddar police station on Tuesday.

The police said that the man, Shahid Farooq, also ended his life by shooting himself in the head after killing his three family members.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot, collected evidence and took the bodies into their custody. Later, the bodies were shifted to DHQ Hospital for completing medico-legal formalities.

Jhelum DPO Nasir Mehmood Bajwa reached the site and sought a report from DSP Saddar. According to initial reports, a citizen named Shahid Farooq shot and killed his wife, stepson and sister-in-law. The deceased were identified as Rukhsana, Babar and Sidra.

The family lived in a rented house. DPO said that police are looking into the case from all angles.

Two weeks ago, at least four people – including three sisters – were murdered inside their homes in the Langarpur village of Jhelum.

According to the police, at least four unidentified persons entered the residence late at night and opened fire.

The three sisters were murdered as was the husband of one of the sisters who was also inside the house.

The women were identified as Rabia, Shumaila and Aasia, said to be daughters of Baba Afzal. Two children were said to be in the house at the time of the incident but remained unhurt.

A heavy contingent of police was dispatched to the area after the murders were reported. Police said a case had been registered and an investigation was underway.
