35 Sialkot factories sealed over pollution

District administration has taken strict action against pollution, smog-related issues since April 1

SIALKOT:

On the directives of the Punjab government, the district administration has taken strict action against pollution and smog-related issues since April 1. This effort has led to the closure of 35 industrial units, six brick kilns, and the impounding of 35 vehicles at police stations.

Additionally, cases have been filed against 48 individuals, and fines totaling Rs5.8 million have been imposed.

Deputy Commissioner Adnan Mehmood Awan provided insights into the ongoing anti-smog operations. He explained that teams comprising officials from the Environment Department, Road Transport Department, and Agriculture Department were deployed to carry out anti-smog activities as per the Punjab government's instructions.

Awan revealed that teams led by the Deputy Director of Environment conducted a total of 335 inspections of brick kilns throughout the district. Cases were registered against 38 kiln owners in various police stations for failing to use zigzag technology, resulting in pollution and smog. These violations led to fines amounting to Rs4.7 million.
